According to The Wall Street Journal, the news came on the back of reports that Tidal has been shopping for potential buyers, including holding talks last year with Napster, the company formally called Rhapsody.
Apple want to buy Tidal to expand its coast as Tidal has strong ties with world renowned artits, Madonna, Rihanna and Kanye West.
Terms of the deal are yet to be revealed.
The American rapper, bought the streaming service in March 2015 for $56 million from Swedish company Aspiro. Jay Z launched the service under the brand Tidal a month later. He has given 19 famous artists and bands small stakes in Tidal and promised each millions of dollars worth of marketing, according to people familiar with the matter.
A spokesperson for Tidal revealed that executives had not had any talks with Apple yet.
An Apple spokesman declined to comment. Tidal representatives have also kept mute about the supposedly on going talks.

According to a report on Punch, Justina was kidnapped few days ago after completion of her program at the Ilishan-Remo based university in June, 2016. Justina was said to be doing her university clearance as part of her graduation process.
Speaking to reporters, the victim’s sister Mrs. Judith Nze said, “She has finished her programme in the school and was just waiting for some clearance. I learnt that the place she stays is isolated.
“She was taken on Sunday and since then we have all lost our peace. I have stopped going to the office because I can’t concentrate.
“Initially, we thought it was a joke until the kidnappers contacted us and demanded N10m as ransom. They later reduced it to N5m.
“They have refused the N300,000 we offered them, insisting that they would kill her if we don’t pay the money.
“They also said we must withdraw the case from the police as a condition for her release.
The case was reported at the Ikenne Police Division and was later transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
Punch correspondent was told that the kidnappers, who had contacted the family, demanded the payment of N10m as ransom.
The police say the kidnap was made possible by an insider and a University of Lagos student has been arrested and linked to the abduction.
“It was an organised crime. Based on preliminary investigations, it appeared that her friends conspired against her. It was a set-up. We believe the kidnappers think that her parents are wealthy and they could make money from them. A female student of a school in Lagos has already been arrested,” a police source said.
The spokesperson for Babcock University, Mr. Joshua Suleiman, said the victim was no longer a student of the school.
He said, “She graduated from the school in June. She is no more our student. We got the information just like you did that she was abducted. We don’t know beyond that.”
