7 Popular Nigerian Rappers Who Have Successfully Transitioned Into Singers

The Nigerian music industry has experienced an amazing make-over and transition over time. At some point, the rap scene saw several rappers who were totally about their punchlines and hardcore rap, but it appears a lot of that has changed over time as somme rappers have deviated from what we used to know them for.

A number of rappers have left hardcore rapping for commercial singing which is way more lucrative that being a hardcore rap in this part of the world. While we don’t blame these rappers from deviating, we totally think the fans and brands care more about commercial music and artists, hence, the transition. A number of them combine rapping and singing pretty well. Check out the list below.

1. Olamide

YBNL chief, Olamide Adedeji popularly referred to as Baddo is one of the rappers that came into the scene with a big bang and made everyone else fall in love with him for his witty lines. The indigenous hardcore rapper has since moved to the commercial side of music, singing and mild rap to remind his fans he still got some lines.

Olamide’s first album, Rhapsodi saw the artist showing off his lyrical prowess and power when it comes to rapping as he employed a number of singers to bail him out on the hooks on that album, but things quickly switched up when he released his next set of albums, YBNL, BGEL and most recently, Street OT. Olamide’s voice has become one of the most loved among some music fans that Olamide gets paid an handsome amount to drop a hook on a song and a few rap lines.

Olamide’s songs released so far this year have been more of him singing than rapping, songs released this year so far include, Bobo, Melo Melo and most recently, Matters Arising.
