36-Year-Old Woman Marries Son’s 15-Year-Old Friend

A woman has been speaking to This Morning (a TV Program) about how she, at the age of 36, fell for her son’s best friend, got pregnant and married him – having thought he was 17, before finding out he was just 14.

Lisa Clark, now 46, told Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford it was something she deeply regretted.

Seeming to put the relationship down to “two people who have very low self-esteem and a lot of issues they haven’t dealt with” coming together, she added that she had recently lost her father, gone through a bad divorce, and was drinking heavily.

“He was just there and he was very persistent and it just happened. It was crazy. It was the stupidest thing I’ve ever done,” Lisa said in Friday’s interview via video link from Atlanta, Georgia in the US.

At the time, the state age of consent was 16 and Lisa claims the boy was pretending to be 17.

Despite not even liking him when they first met through her then 15-year-old son, they became involved and Lisa fell pregnant.

One day, in 2005, Adrian skipped school and he and Lisa married in secret – but she was later arrested and served time in jail over their relationship.

“The system let me marry him – they worked with me to get his birth certificate through his mother and they held off for over a month to make arrangements,” she told This Morning.

“They said: ‘If you marry him, we won’t press charges’.”

According to Lisa, her family didn’t have a major issue with her relationship with someone younger.

“In my family, I have a strong Christian background,” she explained.

“And so my mother was more like: ‘We don’t care how old he is, you better marry him because we don’t have children out of wedlock.’”

Lisa and Adrian are now separated, but have two children together and are trying to be “normal” parents for their sake.
