Federal and legislative election in Rivers State were invalidated by a court ruling in 2015. Subsequent re-runs in March 19,2016 and December 10, 2016 respectively were also unsuccessful due to violence and irregularities.
The Independent National Electoral have slated the outstanding election for Saturday, February 18,2016. This was made known in a statement by the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Aniedi Ikiowak on Tuesday.
The elections which are to hold in 147 polling units in 19 registration areas in Etche and one polling unit in Omuma are aimed at filling Etche Constituency II seat in the House of Assembly and Etche/Omuma seat in the House of Representatives.
The commision while encouraging eligible voters to come out and cast their votes, promised to keep the exercise fair and credible.
Furthermore security agencies are said to have been contacted to provide adequate security during the exercise.
