Lagos Doctors Stage Protest Over Sacking of 16,000 Resident Doctors

The Nigerian Government sacked an estimated to be 16,000 doctors in the country and this has caused an outcry from other doctors who took to the streets to stage a protest. The Nigeria Medical Association kicked off the protest at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi- Araba,


According to Punch, the doctors reportedly carried placards with a variety of phrases, including, “Sack Ebola not Doctors,” “Sack Chukwu not Doctors,” “Sack Boko Haram not Doctors.”

State Chairman of NMA, Tope Ojo reportedly told journalists that the association would not continue any form of negotiations with the federal government calls back the sacked resident doctors. He said;


“It is not acceptable to us and we will do all we can to defend our profession.They did it to ASSU, they signed several agreement with ASSU and did not fulfill it. They say they have met 90 per cent if our demands, it is not true. We will not relent until we have put things in place in our hospitals,” he said.
