Guinean President Alpha Conde elected African Union Chairperson

Guinean President Alpha Conde has been elected  as the Chairperson of the African Union at the African Union summit taking place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This makes him the fifteenth head of state to chair the unioun and fourth from west Africa. He will take over from Chadian President Idris Deby.

This position lasts for a year, during which the chairperson represents the continent at international forums and conferences such as The forum on China-Africa Cooperation G8,G20,  Tokyo International Conference on African Development and so on.

In his acceptance speech Conde stated that he voluntarily and humbly accepts the presidency and feels honoured to have been elected unanimously. He calls for cooperation amongst member states in the integration of African people.
