Oprah Discusses 'Secret Son' Report

Earlier this week, popular American celebrity, Oprah Winfrey after a taping of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert was challenged by her “secret son.”

While on Entertainment tonight, the successful ex talk show host discussed how she came in touch with Calvin Mitchell (as a little boy right) in the early 90’s during the shoot of TV movie “There Are No Children Here.”

Oprah said that, she was taken aback when the young boy offered her coke and that the boy’s family were stuck in the projects. Oprah then moved the child’s family to a better home and put him in a private school.

The young boy however repaid the hope Oprah had in him with disappointment when the principal of the school informed her that he was missing classes and he later got expelled.

“I had a long conversation with him about how disappointed I was but I was going to give him another chance. I found a school in Mississippi that was a private boarding school because I thought if I could remove him from the environment that he’d been accustomed to growing up in, that maybe that would be helpful to him,” Oprah Winfrey said.

Oprah last saw the young boy in the late 90’s. Oprah Winfrey recently however found out that the boy had sold his story to a tabloid and had this to say during the interview: “When I realized the whole thing was a setup, I was no longer interested in speaking to him.”

Oprah however said she wasn’t not pained by the whole thing but instead learned a valuable lesson from the boy’s act.

“I learned from that experience, if you really want to change somebody’s life, you gotta be able to spend enough time with them to change the way they think about what their life can be. It isn’t enough to give a person a new life or money or a new car, you have to teach them how to fish themselves,” she said.
