Suspension Of Prayers In Schools Ordered By The Cross River State Governor

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River state has oredered the suspension of prayers in schools in the state.

He ordered that all primary and secondary schools, public or private should not hold morning or afternoon prayers anymore.

Ben Ayade also ordered that from 2016 all school teachers must be in suit during official hours. In a letter signed by Mrs Anne O. Odey, the Permanent Secretary, Cross River state Ministry of Education, that the suspension placed on prayers in schools will last till further notice.

“The ministry hereby directs all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state to suspend all assemblies (morning and afternoon) till further notice,” the directive sent to all zonal heads read.

the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has however reacted to this by issuing a statement as signed by Archbishop J. E. UkpoApostle Iwara Oleh Obeten, state chairman and secretary respectively of the religious body, said th directive was unacceptable and will have a negative effect on the upbringing of children and also urged the state government to revert its order.
