Africa is the world’s second-largest and most populous continent. It is being said that democracy in Africa is yet to get to where it ought to be as the leadership being exhibited by its leaders is below par and can not be compared to its peers across the globe.


While understanding that education can be a key yardstick for measuring the formulation and implementation of good policies that can have a great effect on the governance and overall welfare of the people, we decide to take a slight look at the 5 least educated African Presidents who are still ruling presently.


SAFRICA-ZUMA/INNAUGURATION


Jacob Zuma – SOUTH-AFRICA


Zuma was born in Nkandla, Natal Province (now part of the province of KwaZulu-Natal. His father was a policeman who died when Zuma was young, and his mother was a domestic worker. He received no formal schooling. As a child, Zuma constantly moved around Natal Province and the suburbs of Durban in the area of Umkhumbane (near Chesterville). He has two brothers, Michael and Joseph.


In December 2012, Mashele said the following about another Zuma term in office: “The rainbow nation of Nelson Mandela will disintegrate, under the weight of a corrupt government, led by people who build large compounds in Nkandla”.


Others disagree. Vusi Shongwe, who worked in the office of the KZN premier, said he believed that the negativity over Zuma’s leadership is largely unjustified.“For all his faults and foibles, he remains a leader people from all walks of life can easily relate to,” said Shongwe.
